The Trolley Barn Addition is Complete!

The addition to the Mountain Ave. Trolley Barn is complete! The expansion to create a third bay to house the track maintenance cars, spare parts, tools, and a maintenance area was completed just prior to Christmas. This enclosed area nearly doubles the size of the original barn built in the early 1980s. Clearing the equipment out of the center bay will allow the storage of Car 25 when it completes its restoration in the Howes St. barn. The new area has been insulated so that it can be heated in the cold weather to make winter maintenance activities more comfortable. A new fire door connects the new bay with the old and the alarm system has also been expanded to protect the new area. The entire exterior of the barn has been scraped, caulked, primed, and repainted. New gutters have been installed and an electric garage door opener included.

Construction Financing The Society is extremely grateful for the people and organizations who made this expansion possible. The 20th Century Electric Railroad Association, the Bohemian Foundation, and the Fort Collins Elks Lodge 804 provided monetary grants. Extremely valuable assistance was provided by the City of Fort Collins and we want to specifically mention the help received from the City’s Parks Department and Electrical Department. The Society itself pledged half of its total income for the past five years to this project as well.
